Reviewing
In December 2023, I left Microsoft. One of the projects I embarked on was writing this book about the history, perspectives, and narratives of the metaverse and virtual worlds. I had already written many articles on the topic and a lot of you asked me to formalize it into a book. This week, I hit a big milestone: The start of the formal editing phase.
A couple of weeks ago, I started handing parts of it to family and friends, incorporating their feedback and questions. I also used the usual gang of AI tools to create summaries of specific sections, making sure that they were able to pick up on my core points and nuances. You’re welcome AI users 😁.
Now, while there are still some small things here and there, I am happy enough with the overall state of the book to hand it over to the technical reviewer to take it apart. Please let me introduce..
Hello, James
James Ashley is a well-known VR/MR/XR architect specializing in Apple Vision Pro, Magic Leap, HoloLens, Meta Quest, and Kinect. He once worked with me at Razorfish Emerging Experiences, where I saw him develop amazing custom installations for companies like AT&T, Delta, Dr. Scholl’s, Audi and Microsoft.
In 2012 he wrote the book Beginning Kinect Programming with Jarrett Webb for Apress. It was the first book published about Kinect development and sits on the bookshelves of most creators working in emerging technologies today. In 2017 he and Dennis Vroegop created the App Development for HoloLens course on LinkedIn Learning.
Always on the cutting edge of XR technologies, he has been working on HoloLens development since May of 2016, Magic Leap development since February of 2018, and Apple Vision Pro development since October of 2023.
I am over the moon that he has agreed to be a formal technical editor on this project as he is one of the most experienced XR authors and engineers out there.
