Getting in Shape
As mentioned in the previous field log, the book is currently in structural and copy editing by the wonderful Carla Cook. While I am currently enjoying a long break from the book project, she is busy reading through it and leaving a trail of notes. Mostly “Cut this!” and “Cut that!“
After the initial irritation that somebody is messing around in MY book (tell me you’re a first time author without telling me you’re a first time author), I am giddy with excitement how much better the book will be once Carla is done with it. She brings such a great lens and clarity to the project that I think works well with the intent of the book.
I also had to get used to not writing for the book. Carla told me to take a break and I did. But since my brain was still in book mode, I didn’t feel like writing for something else, for example reviving my long neglected Medium blog or public notebook. After a couple of weeks, it finally feels like my brain is slowly expanding again towards other topics.
And there is lots to talk about – many things are happening at the intersection of technology, people, culture and politics right now. Some things might still find their way into the book, but many more will end up somewhere else. These are weird times. So we need to look and talk about why they are weird and maybe what to do about it.
